PM Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi has announced PM Jan Dhan Yojana with an objective of covering all households in the country with banking facilities and having a bank account for each household. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has been launched on 28.08.2014 across the nation simultaneously. The Prime Minister has launched the PM Jan Dhan Yojana Scheme in Delhi on the 28th of August 2014. The same was launched at the state level which were attended by the Union Ministers. The PM Jan Dhan Yojana Scheme also launched at district and sub-district levels. Camps are also to be organized at the branch level.
The Govt is aiming to enroll over 7 crore households to open their accounts. Individuals can get the zero balance bank accounts by submitting their Aadhar Card and other relevant documents to the bank officials. Aadhar card is not a mandatory to get this bank account. About 1.5 crore bank accounts have been opened on the 1st day itself. Several banks like State Bank of India (SBI, SBH), State Bank of Mysore, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Corporation Bank, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ING Vysya Bank, Karnataka Bank participated in this scheme and has offered accounts to the poor people. Account holders will also be benefited from Rs5000 over draft felicity with this account.
Under the PM Jan Dhan Yojana Scheme, individuals will be provided with a bank account. Every household gains access to banking and credit facilities. As a first step, every account holder gets a RuPay debit card with a Rs.1,00,000 accident cover. An additional 30,000 life insurance is also offered with this PM Jan Dhan Yojana Scheme.
ICICI Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, announced its participation in the transformational financial inclusion mission, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), by opening one lakh basic savings bank deposit accounts. ICICI Bank cover approximately 15,600 villages and have brought more than 18.5 million unbanked people into the banking fold. The ICICI Bank aim to open 2.5 million accounts under the Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, thereby taking the total number of accounts under our financial inclusion program to more than 20 million.
